A Wishing Well In Our Backyard.

Water and Wishes...

Just on the off chance that you want to come and make a wish, our office hours are....! Then again, you'll have to wait in line for us to make our wishes. There should be a fair amount of coins languishing down there already !

Right in the middle, yet conveniently on the side of our garden, sits a well. Granted, it doesn't look as pretty and romantic as some others, but it works. Now and again, I wonder how long it has been there and the history of it. If it could only tell us its story...

With all our creature comforts ( running water from a tap & electricity at the flick of a switch ) it is easy to forget the days gone by. Can you imagine having to fetch water outside from the well whenever you need some ?

We all like to poo-poo the folk living in the last few centuries and their bi-annual baths. Maybe we should all try and have a bath the old-fashioned way. Let's see how often we will have them then ! All of a sudden, a weekly bath might be the thing...

A few weeks ago it was blazing hot for days on end and our rain-water barrels emptied faster than we would have liked. When I needed to water our vegetables and flowers, I headed inside to fill up the watering can. Bob, with amazing foresight, told me to wait. He wanted to try out the well. Amazingly it worked.

He had to use a bit of energy to lug up all those buckets full of water but he was pleased as punch at the whole idea. The water down there seems endless, is crystal clear and freezing cold. Living in a house with a big garden gives you a better workout than going to gym !

It looks as if Bob is wondering whether to use the well or not. Yet, it is just that his glasses tend to fall off...

A workout for the biceps...

Look at that water, crystal clear !
